  Peggy's Got

  The Blues

Peggy Lee – a dazzling icon of the jazz scene in the 40’s and 50’s was an enduring star who had great success throughout her career and went on to perform until she was well into her 70’s but though her life was full of many highs as a performer, she had more than her fair share of lows in her personal life.  My new show, Peggy's Got the Blues, explores, through the medium of Lee's more blues inspired repertoire, the adversities that Lee overcame.

Lee’s voice was very distinctive – it was understated but full of subtlety with a breathy tone that became her trademark – significantly enhanced by her liking for cigarettes! She made over 50 albums covering many different styles of music giving them all her unique treatment – it seemed she could turn her voice to anything – however, she had an innate blues style and Peggy’s Got the Blues celebrates that style.  The songs chosen explore wistfulness, irony, joyful memories, regret and out and out defiance!

What they say about Peggy's Got the Blues:

"song selection and performance were superb!Ian and Dale (Ronnie Scott's)

" ... a truly amazing performance and tribute to Peggy!!" Michele (Ronnie Scott's)
