Love letter to Broadway is exactly that – an affection for the many songs that have made it onto the Broadway stage with emphasis on the songwriters of Tin Pan Alley (with a bit of poetic licence now and then to throw in other songwriters of considerable note!).

Throughout my career as a singer, I have embraced songs from across the broad spectrum that is jazz.  Having started out in musical theatre it was inevitable that, when I started singing on the jazz circuit, I sang many songs that are grouped together under the umbrella - The Great American Songbook - not a book as such but a term that applies to the multitude of songs that became the core repertoire of jazz musicians in the golden era of jazz stretching roughly from 1920 to 1960.

The songwriters of that period – George and Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Harold Arlen, Dorothy Fields, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Harry Warren …  the list goes on, were masters of their art and the reason the songs have endured is that they are beautifully crafted with lyrics and music that, speaking as a songwriter, you always wish you had written.

You can always rely on these songs to provide any mood you need to create and thus they will always feature in my repertoire amongst all the other fabulous songs I have discovered over the years.
